This assignment concerns health & safety at the workplace. While it is your employer's legal responsibility to ensure that your work site is safe, you also need to know your rights and responsibilities as a worker.

All Co-op assignments and requirements are listed on this site (which is updated regularly).
This site is an important means of keeping students informed of programme requirements. However, it is the responsibililty of all students registered in Co-op to keep in personal contact, by 'checking in' on a weekly basis, with their Co-op teachers.

IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDER:
In the case of an accident at the worksite, or for any serious problem, students (in both paid and volunteer jobs) must call the Co-op teachers or the school immediately. Messages may be left on the cell phone at any hour.

Assessment & Evaluation of Students in Co-op

Co-op is a credit-granting course. Assessment & Evaluation are based on the same criteria as in other TDSB courses (see TDSB Assessment & Evaluation policy).

Students in after-school Co-op are accepted (subject to various conditions and limitations) on a continous intake basis. Final evaluation takes place at the end of each semester (January and June). Students in after-school Co-op must be able to earn a minimum of 110 hours before the end of the semester.

Students in afternoon Co-op are accepted at or near the beginning of each quadmester and do their Co-op placement or job in place of in-school courses during Periods C and D. Students in afternoon Co-op must go to their placement every day for a minimum of 2.5 hours a day in order to earn a minimum of 100 hours (plus 10 hours pre-placement = 110 hours = 1 credit per quad).

All new Co-op students must complete all pre-placement requirements before beginning to count credit hours. Students who change jobs must re-enrol in Co-op and complete certain pre-placement requirements. Continuing Co-op students (new semester or quad) must re-enrol and complete certain pre-placement requirements. In each case, it is the obligation of the student to speak to the Co-op teacher in order to know and carry out these requirements.

Evaluation Categories:

Pre-placement (or continuing placement) requirements: 10% of final quad or semester mark (note: these requirements must be completed before credit hours will be 'clocked')

Placement or Job Performance Evaluation (based Co-op teacher monitoring of student meeting course expectations in Personal Placement Learning Plan): 40% of final quad or semester mark.

Integration assigments during placement:

1) Weekly reflection seminar (student meets with Co-op teacher for brief and informal reflection and discussion): 10% of final quad or semester mark.

2) Formal reflection 'essay' (one page; one per quad): 10% of final quad or semester mark.

Culminating Activity (Oral Examination, Portfolio, Poster, or other summative project--student will be able to choose a culminating activity which best suits his or her interests and abilities): 30% of final quad or semester mark.
